Frequently asked questions
The most common questions we get from our clients
We don't just "paint” your skin. DHA (dihydroxyacetone), the active ingredient in spray tan solution reacts with the amino acids in the outer layer of skin to create your tan. Development is not immediate; it will take about 24 hours to reach the full color. The outcome of your color will depend on the DHA concentration in the solution and the clients skin type. Your tan will gradually fade over the course of 7-10 days.
Rinse time is the main difference. With an express solution you will be able to rinse in 2-4 hours depending on the darkness level you would like to achieve.
Please understand that your color will develop over 24 hours and will not be visible when you first rinse. With an 8 hour solution (Classic Tan or Extra Dark options) you need to keep the solution on your skin for at least 8 hours before rinsing.
The option you select will depend on your plans for the day. If you are coming in earlier in the day and/or would like to rinse prior to bed, I’d suggest the Express. If a client’s appointment is later in the evening and doesn’t mind sleeping with the solution on, I’d suggest the Classic or Extra Dark options.
Female clients 18+ are welcome to wear as little or as much as they’d like during the spray tan process.
Males and all clients under 18 are required to wear bottoms at minimum. No exceptions.
We suggest you wear loose dark clothing and flip flops or slip on shoes after your appointment. Tight shoes/clothes can rub your skin and ruin your spray tan. (no jeans, leggings, socks, tennis shoes, or bras when possible). If there’s a chance of rain, please bring an umbrella to help avoid getting your spray tan wet from your car to your home/destination.
On average your tan should last 7-10 days, depending on your skin type and how well you follow skin prep & aftercare instructions.
A spray tan only affects the top layer of skin cells. Since your body is constantly shedding dead skin cells in order to regenerate new ones, the rate that you shed these skin cells will determine how quickly your tan will fade. You can help delay this process by staying hydrated, moisturized, and using spray tan safe products.
We suggest scheduling your appointment 2 days before an event (wedding, birthday, prom, etc..) and 1 day before leaving for a vacation.
Yes. Your spray tan does not provide any UV protection. Be sure to wear a spray tan safe sunscreen that won’t strip your tan. A lotion based SPF is preferred over an aerosol as the sprays will normally contain alcohol, which will strip your tan. Sunbum & Coola are 2 brands that I suggest.
While our solutions are naturally derived, vegan, paraben and cruelty free, we advise all expectant/nursing mothers to consult with their physician before scheduling an appointment. To request an ingredient list of our product to provide your physician for review, please contact us
Because the bronzer from your spray tan can transfer, we suggest you wear loose, dark clothing after your spray tan appointment and a loose long sleeve pajama top/pants when sleeping in your spray tan. While the bronzer should wash out, there’s always the potential for staining delicate fabrics like nylon, silk, leather and satin.
You will want to avoid anti-aging and exfoliating products such as: AHAs, Retina-A, Tretinoin, toners, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Accutane & similar products as they will fade your tan quicker.
Ask about our touch up mist to help add color back to your face tan!
You will want to avoid products containing mineral oil, alcohol, sulfates, parabens and fragrance. (that means no bar soap, dove, b&bw, vs, or similar products). It’s best to use all natural products or products made specifically for spray tans, check out the options sold in our studio!
Every body is different, but the simple answer is yes. Your tan can be affected during ovulation, menstruation, menopause, and pregnancy. Your spray tan results have the potential to develop lighter than you are used to and/or fade faster.
Existing sunspots and sun damage on your skin have potential to appear darker once a spray tan is applied. Sun damage may not be very noticeable pre-spray but when the tan is applied it will take on a darker freckled look. Sunspots that are visible pre-tan can appear darker after the tan is applied. These outcomes don’t happen for everyone, but it is important for clients to be aware of the possibility.
